Saxophonist John Ellis to perform
at Erato on Sunday, May 14

John Ellis

Via the Erin Bode mailing list: Tenor saxophonist John Ellis, a veteran of five years with jazz-funk guitarist Charlie Hunter's trio, will make his St. Louis debut as a bandleader on Sunday, May 14 at Erato, a wine bar located at 3117 S. Grand. The gig, which will also feature a guest appearance from Bode, runs from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. and admission is $5 at the door.

A self-proclaimed "country boy" by birth, Ellis has lived in New Orleans and New York, gigging with Mike Clark, Fred Wesley, Jason Marsalis and many others in addition to his work with Hunter. He recently left Hunter's trio to pursue his own band full time, and has a new CD called By A Thread due for release this week. For his St.Louis appearance, Ellis' group will include Alan Hampton on bass, Mike Moreno on guitar, and Derrek Phillips on drums.
