Russell Gunn to headline concert celebrating
Miles Davis on Friday, May 26

Trumpeter Russell Gunn, who grew up in East St. Louis but now lives in Atlanta, will return home to be the headline attraction at a concert to kick off the Memorial Day weekend on Friday, May 26. The show, which celebrates the 80th birthday of local jazz icon Miles Davis, begins at 7 p.m. at Blackmon's Plaza, 127 Collinsville Ave. in East St. Louis.

Gunn will front a band including Reggie Thomas on piano, saxophonist Amos Brewer, John King on bass and drummer Montez Coleman. Also appearing will be trumpeter and pianist Rev. Ron Myers, M.D., backed by a group including Rolla Armstead and Sayeed Jamal on saxophones, Dr. London Branch on bass and Aye Aton on drums, plus a gospel choir and the ever-popular "special guests."
