Jazz St. Louis has announced the summer 2016 schedule for Jazz at the Bistro, highlighted by a two-night engagement featuring pianist Chick Corea's trio with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade.
Corea (pictured) will be making his debut at the Bistro with performances on Tuesday, June 21 and Wednesday, June 22. His most recent St. Louis gig was a solo concert in October 2014 at The Sheldon.
Other touring artists performing this summer at the Bistro will include vibraphonist Stefon Harris, who will play with student musicians from the JazzU program on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4; saxophonist Houston Person, who's guest-starring with drummer Montez Coleman's group on Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23; and the much-hyped, 12-year-old piano prodigy Joey Alexander, making his St. Louis debut at the Bistro with a show on Saturday, June 18.
In other highlights, singer Erin Bode will celebrate the release of her new album with performances on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25 at the Bistro, and the room also will be one of the venues for a second year of Grand Center's "Music At The Intersection" festival, which will be held on three separate Fridays in June, July and September.
Update, 11:00 a.m. 3/29/16: In an email, Jazz St. Louis' Devin Rodino says the summer schedule also will include another concert paying tribute to Rich McDonnell, the late founder of MAXJAZZ Records, and raising money for music scholarships. That event will take place the afternoon and evening of Sunday, June 5, with exact times and lineup of musicians TBA.
