In acknowledgment of Black History Month, over the weekend the Post-Dispatch ran an article by pop critic Kevin Johnson presenting an overview of some of the most famous African-American musicians from St. Louis.
In addition to the expected Chuck Berry and Tina Turner references, the piece contained capsule biographies and audio samples of Miles Davis, Josephine Baker, Fontella Bass and others, while also namechecking trumpet legend Clark Terry and younger jazz players Russell Gunn, Andre Delano, Eric Person and Greg Osby.
