This week, we've got more "coming attractions" previews, starting with a clip of mallet percussionist Stefon Harris, who comes to Jazz at the Bistro for a four-night stand beginning on Halloween. Perhaps on opening night Harris will have some suitably eerie/spooky/monstrous material appropriate to the occasion, but here you can see seven minutes worth of his composition "And This Too Shall Pass," recorded live at a soundcheck last year. That's St. Louis native Greg Osby on saxophone, and the pianist is Jason Moran, who will headline his own gig at the Bistro next year from January 30 - February 2.
The second video features the traditional jazz and swing sounds of singer Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, who will be in St. Louis on Saturday, November 10 to perform at the Sheldon Concert Hall. The nine minute clip was recorded just last month, and shows them doing "I Want A Little Boy" and "Walk Right In".
