The Jazz Journalists Association announced their annual awards this past Monday night, and Miles Davis' The Cellar Door Sessions 1970 won the prize for Jazz Reissue of the Year, box set.

A number of this year's other JJA award winners have performed in St. Louis during the last 12 months, including Kurt Elling (Male Jazz Singer of the Year); Dianne Reeves (Female Jazz Singer of the Year); the Wayne Shorter Quartet (Small Ensemble Group of the Year); Toots Thielemans (Player of the Year of Instruments Rare in Jazz - in this case, harmonica); James Carter (Baritone Saxophonist of the Year); Joey DeFrancesco (Organ-keyboards of the Year) and Dave Douglas (Trumpeter of the Year). The JJA also presented an A-Team Award for accomplishments behind the scenes, to Sandra and Ben Jaffe of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, who will perform this Friday at the US Bank St. Louis Jazz and Heritage Festival.
