Saxophonist Jeff Coffin will give free concert,
clinic this Saturday in Belleville

This just in: Turns out there's another noteworthy touring musician in the St. Louis area this weekend, as saxophonist Jeff Coffin, known for his work with Bela Fleck and Flecktone and for his own group, the Mu'tet, will be giving a free concert and musicians' clinic in Belleville this Saturday afternoon as part of the 18th annual jazz festival at Southwestern Illinois College. From the Belleville News-Democrat:
"Coffin will put on a clinic at 1 p.m. Saturday before joining SWIC's Jazz Band on stage for a concert at 2. Both events are free and open to the public."This guy is amazing," said Ed Jacobs, assistant professor of music and director of SWIC's Jazz Band. "Whether it's using a wah-wah pedal or playing two saxes at the same time, he really represents the vanguard of modern music."

In addition, area junior and senior high school jazz bands will play gigs throughout the day during the non-competitive festival. The lineup includes Collinsville at 9:30 a.m., Granite City at 10:15, Belleville West at 11, New Athens at 3, West Junior High School at 3:45 and Central Junior High School at 4:30 p.m.

All performances are free and open to the public in the SWIC theater."
