Notes from the Net: Bruce Forman on his St. Louis visit; and why more jazz artists should record live

Guitarist Bruce Forman, who was in the St. Louis area last week to give a clinic and perform with his western swing band Cowbop, writes about his visit here...and Fred Kaplan, who writes about jazz for the online magazine Slate, has an interesting piece this week about how jazz music is perhaps better suited to being recorded live than in the studio. It's not a new argument, to be sure, and I'm not certain I agree with the notion as an across-the-board prescription, but Kaplan does make the case for his viewpoint clearly and persuasively.
