SLSO chamber series at Pulitzer
to feature contemporary composers

John Cage is one of the contemporary composers whose work
will be performed as part of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra's
new Pulitzer series.

Back before the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra had its financial near-meltdown a few years ago, the SLSO presented chamber music concerts featuring modern composers under the banner of their Discovery Series. Now, the Orchestra and music director David Robertson are reviving the idea for a new concert series at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, located in the Grand Center neighborhood.

The series begins November 1, and will feature SLSO musicians performing works from a number of prominent 20th and 21st century composers, including Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Philip Glass, Frederic Rzewski and Terry Riley, whose most famous composition In C will be part of the December program. Many jazz composers, improvisors and experimental musicians have drawn inspiration and ideas from these composers, and it's good to see the SLSO and Maestro Robertson devoting time and resources to this sort of endeavor.
