Here's StLJN's latest wrap-up of assorted links and short news items of local interest:

* The St. Louis County Library has re-opened submissions for their "Listen Up STL" program, which makes recordings from local bands and musicians available on the library's streaming audio service.

The current submission period will close on Monday, September 30. Library cardholders can get the streaming app or access the service from the web for free here.

* The recent Denver stop of saxophonist David Sanborn's "Double Vision Revisited" tour with pianist Bob James and bassist Marcus Miller was reviewed by AllAboutJazz.com's C. Andrew Hovan.

* Promoting their appearance at this Saturday's Hermann Wine and Jazz Festival, the Bosman Twins on Tuesday performed and were interviewed on the morning newscast on KTVI (Fox 2).

* Singer and pianist Diane Schuur, who's headlining the Alton Jazz and Wine Festival this Saturday, was interviewed Thursday by John Carney of KTRS.

* Jazz presenter Dorothy Edwards will inducted as an honorary member of the Musicians Association of St. Louis (AFM Local 2-197) at the union's annual awards celebration and dinner on Sunday, September 29 at Bartolino's Osteria.

With her late husband Robert, a trombonist and music educator, Edwards operated the now-closed venue Robbie's House of Jazz in Webster Groves, and she continues to book occasional shows at the Ozark Theatre in Webster.

* As the new documentary Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool opens this weekend in St. Louis, reviews continue to come in, most recently including assessments from The New Yorker and MovieWeb.com.

* Elsewhere on the Miles Davis beat, film footage from 1957 of the trumpeter in Paris - believed to contain the oldest existing moving images of Davis - recently was rediscovered was during an inventory operation at the INA Conservation Center in France.

* Last but not least, in related news, a custom trumpet designed and owned by Davis (pictured) will be auctioned on Tuesday, October 29 in New York at Christie’s auction house, who enlisted trumpeter and St. Louis native Keyon Harrold to demonstrate the horn on video.

The fall presenting season gets rolling this week, with a calendar of live jazz and creative music that includes three multi-artist outdoor shows, the return of a New Orleans favorite, and more.

Wednesday, September 4
This week's "Grand Center Jazz Crawl" includes cornetist TJ Muller & Friends at The Stage at KDHX, the jam session hosted by bassist Bob DeBoo at the Kranzberg Arts Center, and saxophonist Ben Reese's Unity Quartet at The Dark Room.

Thursday, September 5
Miss Jubilee performs a dinnertime show at Magpie's Cafe, saxophonist Vince Sala leads a trio at The Pat Connolly Tavern, and saxophonist Carlos Brown Jr. returns to The Dark Room.

Friday, September 6
New Orleans' Rebirth Brass Band (pictured, top left) returns for an outdoor performance at the Atomic Cowboy Pavilion, with the Saint Boogie Brass Band opening; and Ghanaian drummer Paa Kow and his Afro-Fusion Orchestra will make their St. Louis debut at BB's Jazz, Blues & Soups.

Also on Friday, the annual St. Louis Art Fair begins in Clayton and continues through Sunday with free jazz stage performances from guitarist Tom Byrne, singer Wendy Gordon, pianist Adam Maness, the Jim Widner Big Band, and more. (See the fair's website for a complete schedule.)

Saturday, September 7
It's big day for live jazz around town, with three noteworthy multi-artist outdoor shows happening in three different parts of the metro area.

Starting west of St. Louis in Gasconade County, the Hermann Wine & Jazz Festival will feature a lineup of local and regional talent including The Bosman Twins, Bach to the Future, Jim Manley, Carolbeth True and Two Times True, and the Mo E All-Stars with Cheri Evans at the Clara Eitmann Messmer Amphitheater.

Moving east to Chesterfield, the "Smooth Jazz Cruise on Land" will include sets from multi-instrumentalist Brian Culbertson (pictured, bottom left), saxophonists Grace Kelly, Eric Darius and Tim Cunningham, and singer Erin Bode at the Chesterfield Amphitheater.

And over on the east side of the Mississippi, the Alton Jazz & Wine Fest will feature music from pianist and singer Diane Schuur plus funk/jazz quartet Good 4 The Soul and the Funky Butt Brass Band at the Riverfront Amphitheater in Alton.

Sunday, September 8
The St. Louis Record Collectors Show presents their fall event at the American Czech Center; singer and bassist Janet Evra plays for brunch at The Dark Room; and drummer Steve Davis' band with singer Feyza Eren will perform at the house-concert venue The Judson House.

Monday, September 9
Dizzy Atmosphere plays vintage swing and Gypsy jazz at The Shaved Duck, and the Webster University Jazz Faculty offers a "Riverside Records Retrospective," featuring music from Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Chet Baker, Thelonious Monk, and others at Winifred Moore Auditorium on the Webster campus.

Tuesday, September 10
Trumpeter Kasimu Taylor plays the music of Miles Davis in a concert at the Gasllght Theater.

* Trumpeter Keyon Harrold this week was on NPR as a guest performer on singer Erykah Badu's Tiny Desk Concert.

* The latest episode of the cable TV series STL Live previewed Saturday's Hermann Wine & Jazz Festival.

* Saxophonist and educator Harvey Lockhart's HEAL Center for the Arts is one of several local organizations getting a grant for 2018-19 from the Arts and Education Council's Monsanto Creative Impact Fund.

* Singer and producer Wendy Gordon (pictured), saxophonist Kendrick Smith, and other cast members appeared on FOX 2's Thursday morning newscast to promote the latest installment of Gordon's "Jazz Heaven" series, happening this Saturday at the Florissant Civic Center Theater.

* Flute player and composer Fred Tompkins has reissued his late 1970s album Cécile on CD. The re-release includes all the tunes from the LP version, which feature performances from notable musicians such as bassist Anthony Jackson, guitarist Chuck Loeb, and others, plus some bonus tracks of more recent material.

* Thurman's in Shaw is adding a Sunday brunch, which will debut with a "soft opening" on Sunday, August 26. The venue also will celebrate two years of operations under the current ownership with an all-day event on Saturday, September 1 featuring live music, drink specials, and more.

Wednesday, August 15
Cabaret Project St. Louis presents this month's edition of what they're now calling the "Singers Open Mic" at Sophie's Artist Lounge & Cocktail Club in the .ZACK building in Grand Center.

Also on Wednesday, guitarist Joe Park leads a trio at Yaquis on Cherokee; Wright's Project returns to Al's Lounge; and the weekly, free "Grand Center Jazz Crawl" features guitarist Travis Lewis leading a trio at The Stage at KDHX, the jam session hosted by bassist Bob DeBoo at the Kranzberg Arts Center, and trumpeter  Kasimu Taylor's band at The Dark Room.

Thursday, August 16
Singer Anita Jackson performs at 50/Fifty Kitchen; singer Cheri Evans and CEEJazzSoul are back at the Chase Club, and bassist Chano Cruz leads a trio at The Dark Room.

Friday, August 17
Saxophonist and singer Karl Denson brings his band Tiny Universe (pictured, top left) back to the Atomic Cowboy Pavilion, with opening sets from locals The Grooveliner and Brother Francis & The Soultones.

In addition to some funky favorites from their back catalog, you can expect to hear some material from KDTU's soon-to-be-released next album, as well as a few Allman Brothers covers. Also on Friday, singer Denise Thimes, who relocated to Chicago earlier this year, is back home for the weekend and will sing the music of Roberta Flack for the first of two nights at Jazz St. Louis.

Elsewhere around town, the Hard Bop Messengers will spread the gospel of Art Blakey at Evangeline's; trumpeter Jim Manley returns to One 19 North Tapas & Wine Bar; and Focal Point begins a several-weeks-long slate of vintage jazz shows with at "Django Reinhardt Tribute" featuring guitarists Joe Park, Eric Slaughter, Gary Hunt, Paul Davis and John Miller.

Saturday, August 18
Singer and impresario Wendy Gordon presents "Jazz Heaven: Under The Rainbow II," the latest installment in her long-running series of tribute shows, with a cast including Jeanne Trevor (pictured, bottom left), Kim Fuller-Barnes, Dean Christopher, Eugene Johnson, and more, at the Florissant Civic Center Theater.

Also on Saturday, you can head west to wine country for the annual Hermann Wine & Jazz Festival, a free, day-long event featuring music from drummer Montez Coleman's quartet, SpaceShip, Chris Hazelton’s Boogaloo 7, the Joe Mancuso Organ Trio, Bach to the Future and more at the Hermann Amphitheater.

Elsewhere around town, singer Feyza Eren will perform at Evangeline's; singer Mary Dyson returns to Troy's Jazz Gallery; and the Chicago Cellar Boys will be in town to play their brand of traditional jazz and swing at the Focal Point.

Sunday, August 19
Although Sunday's concert by trumpeter Herb Alpert and his wife, singer Lani Hall, at the Grandel Theatre has been sold out for several weeks now, you can catch guitarist and singer Tommy Halloran playing for brunch at The Dark Room, then check out an exhibit of some of Alpert's visual art in the Grandel lobby.

Elsewhere on Sunday, the Genesis Jazz Project returns to BB's Jazz, Blues and Soups; or if you're on the east side (or can get there), Miss Jubilee is playing a free, all-ages show at Bobby's Frozen Custard in Maryville.

Monday, August 20
Drummer Keith Bowman and his quartet continue their Monday night residency at The Dark Room.

 * Trumpeter Nate Wooley talked with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Calvin Wilson about his performance with electronic musician Ikue Mori tomorrow night at The Luminary.

* Abdul Hamid Royal, pianist and music director for the production of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill playing through March 4 at the Kranzberg Arts Center, was interviewed by the St. Louis American's Kenya Vaughn.

The play-with-music by Lanie Robertson recounts the story of singer Billie Holiday using one of her nightclub performances as a framing device, and stars Alexis J. Roston (pictured) as Holiday. Roston and Royal also spoke with St. Louis magazine's Rosalind Early for a brief feature story, which you can read here.

* The Dark Room's new space at the Grandel Theatre, which opens for business next week, was the subject of a feature by the Post-Dispatch's Kevin Johnson

* The website St. Louis Musicians Unite has compiled Spotify playlists of local music by genre, including a playlist for St. Louis jazz artists. You can see all the lists here.

* Organizers of the Hermann Wine and Jazz Festival have announced their date and lineup for this year. The 2017 event will be held on Saturday, August 19 at the Clara Eitmann Messmer Ampitheater in Hermann, and will feature music from Funky Butt Brass Band, Bach to the Future, The People's Key, singer/songwriter Sean Coray, and the Nick Savage Quintet.

* Speaking of the Funky Butt Brass Band, they have just recorded a version of "St. Louis Blues" and posted it to BandCamp, with the proceeds from downloads of the song going to support "Blues For Kids," the charity organization of the St. Louis Blues hockey team. * According to posts on social media, Music Record Shop has relocated from the Grove neighborhood to Grand Center.

The retailer will take up residence in temporary space at 3526 Washington (right next door to KDHX) until January, when they'll move into a permanent home in the district's new "arts incubator" .ZACK - and yes, it's pronounced "dot zack" - in the former Cadillac Building at 3224 Locust St (pictured).

* The website ThisIsHermann.com has published online a photo set from last Saturday's Hermann Wine & Jazz Festival.

* Dan Connor, drummer and bandleader for Miss Jubilee, was profiled in the Belleville News-Democrat.

* The MAXJAZZ catalog of jazz recordings has been acquired by the Detroit-based Mack Avenue label. The St. Louis based independent label had been essentially dormant since the death of founder Richard McDonnell in February, 2014.
