StLJN Saturday Video Showcase:
Rewinding Jazz St. Louis' "Season of Stream"
When live music shut down earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jazz St. Louis, like many presenters across the country, began offering programming online.
The first iteration of the organization's "Season of Stream" this spring featured replays of full sets by various touring bands and musicians that had been recorded over the last couple of years at the room formerly known as Jazz at the Bistro. (A second series of weekly streams this summer, still ongoing, is featuring St. Louis musicians in sets newly recorded without a live audience and employing social distancing.)
This week, let's take a look back at some of those archived "Season of Stream" shows, starting with the first presentation of the series, which featured a set by drummer Nate Smith and his band Kinfolk, recorded when they performed at Jazz St. Louis in December, 2019.
After the jump, you can see trumpeter Terence Blanchard and his electric band, the E-Collective, as captured live in November, 2019.
Next up, it's a set from trumpeter Etienne Charles and Creole Soul, recorded early in March of this year, just before the shutdown.
The fourth video reaches back to 2017, and documents a full set at the Bistro by fusion band Yellowjackets.
That's followed by a set from The Bad Plus, recorded in January of this year during their annual visit here.
The final video features a full set by singer and St. Louis native Alicia Olatuja, recorded in December, 2019.
Check back here next week for more performances from the "Season of Stream" series. You can see the rest of today's videos after the jump...
