In the latest Miles Davis-related news, Columbia/Legacy Recordings has announced plans to put out another volume in their "Bootleg Series" of CD box sets collecting the live performances of Miles Davis.
Set for release on on July 17, Miles Davis at Newport 1955-75: The Bootleg Series Vol. 4 will be a four-disc set (pictured) of live recordings of Davis’concerts at various events branded with the "Newport Jazz Festival" name, including the original in Newport, R.I., as well as affiliated festivals in Germany, Switzerland; and NYC. Three-quarters of the tracks, or about four hours worth of material, are said to be previously unreleased.
This year’s Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island will mark the 60th anniversary of Davis' first performance there with events including panel discussions about the trumpeter and performances of Davis-related works by various musicians during their individual sets.
