This just in: Veteran saxophonist Ernie Watts (pictured) will join pianist Laurence Hobgood for the latter's previously announced performance on Thursday, April 5 at Jazz at the Bistro. Watts has played with Hobgood in singer Kurt Elling's band, and also is known for his work as a solo artist and with Charlie Haden's Quartet West, the Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, and many others.
Performing with Hobgood and Watts will be bassist Matthew Rybicki, whose credits include work with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and drummer Jared Schonig, who's also played with Elling and is a member of the Wee Trio with bassist and St. Louis native Dan Loomis.
Tickets for the Laurence Hobgood Quartet at Jazz at the Bistro are $25 for the general public, $10 for students with ID, and are on sale now via Metrotix.
