The Nu-Art Series has announced two concerts in December:* Saxophonist and composer Hamiet Bluiett (pictured) will direct a performance of his music by the East St. Louis Senior High School music department, including the woodwind ensemble, percussion ensemble, jazz orchestra and combo, at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday, December 3.
* Saxophonist Freddie Washington will perform with his band at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10. Washington, a mainstay on the local club scene from the 1960s through the 1980s, recently moved back to St. Louis and has begun performing publicly again.
Both concerts will take place at the Metropolitan Gallery, 2936 Locust Street downtown. Doors open at 2:00 p.m., and general admission is $10.00.

Freddie Washington is phenominal
Mr. Washington was kind enough to play with my high school jazz band in 1975. I still have the vinyl recording. Two lame audience mics and a very average band and he still sounded wonderful. He was very kind to us - a very classy musician.
