A couple of quick notes about three more jazz-related events at the Sheldon:
The classically trained Latin-jazz pianist Michel Camilo (pictured) has been added to the "Leonard Slatkin & Friends" concert scheduled for Sunday, April 13 at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Camilo's known for having some seriously world-class piano chops, and has played with a very long list of greats in both jazz and Latin music. You can check him out doing a solo piano version of his composition "Suntan" in the video window embedded below.
Other participants in the genre-bending "Slatkin & Friends" event, which benefits radio station KFUO Classic 99, will include the teenage classical piano prodigy Peng-Peng Gong; singer Sylvia McNair; violinist and Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra concertmaster David Halen; and bassist Edgar Meyer, who's known for playing classical, jazz and bluegrass. Patron-level tickets available now by calling KFUO at (314) 725-0099.
The Sheldon has also added dates in its Notes From Home series for the SIU-E Big Band directed by Brett Stamps on Tuesday, February 24, and for singer Denise Thimes on Tuesday, March 11. Thimes' concert is a benefit for the St. Louis chapter of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (NCADA).
