Though he's undoubtedly busy this particular week, Don Wolff was kind enough to email with more information about his plans once his program "I Love Jazz" signs off KMOX (AM 1120) for the final time on Saturday night.
First, a clarification to some of StLJN's previous coverage: Wolff says the new cable TV incarnation of "I Love Jazz," set to become part of the HEC-TV schedule later this fall, is intended as an addition to, and not a replacement for, his radio program. The show will include educational and historic elements as well as participation from local student musicians.
On the audio side, Wolff says KMOX has offered him the option of continuing the "I Love Jazz" radio program online, but he's exploring other possibilities first and has a meeting set with rival news-talk-sports station KTRS (550 AM), already home to a number of former KMOX staff members and on-air personalities.
No matter what happens, the audio version of "I Love Jazz" will continue on Wolff's own Web site. He also plans to add video to the site, drawing on a personal library that includes "private parties that I was allowed to video plus one of the largest collection of jazz films-TV-movies from the US & world-wide."
Sounds good to me - Don Wolff has been a tireless advocate for jazz in the St. Louis community, and I'm glad he'll be continuing his work. Wolff says he'll keep StLJN informed as the future of "I Love Jazz" unfolds, so keep reading for further updates.
