The city of Webster Groves will be sponsoring a series of free concert-and-movie events once again this summer, and the shows held on Friday evenings at Gazebo Park in the Old Orchard business district will include several performers of interest to jazz listeners.
Each show starts at 7 p.m. with a musical performance, followed a film projected on a large outdoor screen.
On June 22, singer Jeanne Trevor will be the featured musician and the 1966 version of Batman (the one with Adam West, Burt Ward, Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin et al) the featured movie.
On July 13, the Hot Club-inspired sounds of Dizzy Atmosphere will precede a showing of Tim Burton's 1990 fantasy film Edward Scissorhands, which includes St. Louis native Vincent Price in his final screen role as the title character's father/creator.
And on July 20, singer Kim Massie will perform before a screening of Christopher Guest's mockumentary Best In Show, which came out in 2000, features most of his usual repertory company, and is set in the world of competitive dog shows.
This seems like a fun concept for a free summertime event, though I have no idea how (or if) the films and musicians are supposed to relate to one another. You can see more information about the other dates, films and musical performers here (.pdf file).
