Coming attractions include Brian Auger,
Craig Russo and more

In the latest news from the Department of Coming Attractions, Finale Music and Dining has added more bookings of touring acts to their spring lineup, seemingly with an emphasis on acts that have played the club at least once before.

Over the next several months, Finale has scheduled return appearances by the West Coast Latin-jazz band San Gabriel Seven on Friday, April 20; Chicago-based singer Typhanie Monique and guitarist Neal Alger (pictured) on Thursday, April 26; Champaign-Urbana's Craig Russo Latin Jazz Project on Saturday, May 12; and British expat organist Brian Auger's Oblivion Express on Thursday, May 24.

On the local front, the club has booked return gigs for singer Anita Rosamond on Saturday, March 31, and Hard Bop Heritage, who will do a Miles Davis tribute on Saturday, May 26. Finale has also set up first-time shows this spring for saxophonist Rod Tate (Thursday, April 18), pianist Carol Schmidt (Saturday, April 21) and saxophonist Readus Miller (Friday, June 15).

And as long as we're talking coming attractions, jazz fans may also be interested in knowing that guitarist and singer Murali Coryell will be appearing at BB's Jazz, Blues and Soups on Thursday, April 12. The son of famed jazz-fusion guitarist Larry Coryell, Murali Coryell is a blues/soul musician who's chosen different genres than his old man but seems to have inherited at least a portion of his dad's guitar-playing aptitude.

Finally, just because we can, here's a recent video clip of Brian Auger and the current edition of Oblivion Express, featuring Auger's son Karma on drums and his daughter Savannah on vocals and provocative hip movements. The tune they're performing - alas, somewhat truncated for YouTube purposes - is Auger's well-known version of "Happiness Is Just Round The Bend".
