St. Louis jazz trumpeter Floyd LeFlore was mentioned in this weekend's column from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Deb Peterson, but not for his trumpet playing or composing. No, this time LeFlore was in the news simply for being a dad, thanks to an item about his daughter, author Lyah Beth LeFlore, who was recently in town for a signing of her latest book.
A few years back, I used to see Floyd occasionally sporting a ball cap with the logo of New York Undercover, a yesteryear TV cop show produced by the same company that does Law and Order. When I asked him about it once, he explained that the swag was courtesy of Lyah Beth, who worked at the time for the show's producers. I could tell from the way Floyd spoke of her that he was a very proud dad, and so I'm sure he was delighted to see her in the spotlight in her hometown paper.
