Over the course of his career, alto saxophonist David Sanborn has played with an uncountable number of artists from many musical genres. His ability to adapt to different musical situations, along with his natural poise and sense of humor, made Sanborn an ideal choice to host Night Music (aka Sunday Night), the much-remembered late night music show that aired for two seasons on NBC in the late 1980s.
In addition to serving as host, Sanborn performed alongside many of the show's guests, delivering some unique musical moments unlikely ever to be replicated. Unfortunately, Night Music hasn't made it to DVD yet, but there are some clips of individual performances from the show floating around the Net.
So, since videos of Sanborn performing on his own seem to be, at the present time anyway, impossible to find online, here's one of those Night Music clips instead. This one shows Sanborn jamming with master funk bassist Bootsy Collins on a song from Bootsy's first solo album. While the clip doesn't really have much to do with what Sanborn will be doing this Saturday night at the US Bank St. Louis Jazz and Heritage Festival in Shaw Park, it's just kind of fun to hear and watch Dave and Bootsy "stretchin' out" together. Hope you enjoy it.
