OK, I'm doing something I've never done before, and pulling a post from circulation to substitute another.
Why? Because this week's jazz highlights post, as originally composed on Wednesday, mentioned a four-night gig at Jazz at the Bistro by the Yellowjackets that was originally scheduled for 5/31 - 6/3. Unfortunately, said gig was rescheduled some time ago for the week of June 14-17, but I didn't record the change on the site calendar, which I use to help compile these little weekly missives. So if you read yesterday's post, or perused the calendar, and got all excited about seeing the 'Jackets, you're going to have to wait another couple of weeks, but they indeed will be here. Apologies to all concerned for the error.
So, if you're looking for live jazz this weekend, I'd suggest that you check out the homecoming show this Saturday night by pianist Linda Presgrave, who moved from St. Louis to New York in 1998. Presgrave has been back to town occasionally since then, but this time she's here to do a gig at Cookie's Jazz and More promoting her new CD The Journey. As an added attraction, Cleveland vocalist Debbie Gifford, a frequent collaborator of Presgrave's who has a new CD of her own, will perform with Presgrave's quartet.
Elsewhere around town, many of your St. Louis favorites will be performing at their usual haunts, and you can get a quick overview of who's doing what where by consulting the St. Louis Jazz Notes Calendar. (Please note that while all the information I have for this weekend has been entered, the June update is still a work in progress that I plan to have complete by this time on Thursday.)
(If you represent a band, musician, presenter or venue, and would like to get your events listed in the calendar, please email your news release or schedule information to stljazznotes at yahoo dot com.)
