The Sheldon's Josephine Baker exhibit reviewed

Click on the photo of Josephine Baker to go to a page
with text and audio from her 1970 radio interview with
Radio Prague. For an MP3 sample of Baker singing
"I Love Dancing," click

KWMU's
St. Louis On The Air program from 4/19/06,
which featured a discussion about Baker's life and work
and the current exhibit at the Sheldon
.

Technically, this item isn't really music-related, but since the StlJN visitor logs have recorded a number of Josephine Baker-related searches in recent weeks, it seemed worth some quick linkage. The Baker exhibit that just opened at the Sheldon obviously took a lot of time and effort to mount, and, appropriately enough, Post-Dispatch art critic David Bonetti is giving it comprehensive coverage this weekend. The P-D's package of stories includes Bonetti's review of the exhibit, some thoughts about Baker's life and cultural/historic significance, a guide to what's on display in which gallery space, and a schedule of related events.
