Even with many St. Louis area schools on spring break, the third annual Metro East Jazz Festival held this past weekend in Belleville attracted an enthusastic crowd as well as more than 200 student participants from 15 high school and middle school jazz bands, according to this story from the Belleville News-Democrat.
As one of the kids interviewed in the story points out, school programs and associated events like this one provide many young people with their first opportunties to hear, play and enjoy jazz. It's good to see that area schools are offering these sorts of programs, and even better to see that there seems to be lots of interest among students and their families.
