Clark Terry, Jeff Hamilton, Tim Ries will perform at Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival in April

Clark Terry

The 2006 Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival - not to be confused with the US Bank St. Louis Jazz and Heritage Festival - will be held on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 and will feature guest appearances by legendary St. Louis-born trumpeter Clark Terry, drummer Jeff Hamilton, saxophonist Tim Ries and other touring jazz professionals. The event will feature public performances from these guest stars, as well as jazz clinics for and performances by student musicians from the University of Missouri - St. Louis and throughout the region.

Friday's festival events will take place at Jazz at the Bistro and will feature sets from several student combos, including the Bistro's THF Realty All-Stars, as well as music from Hamilton, Ries and fellow guest stars Scott Hamilton on sax and Clay Jenkins on trumpet. Terry will appear in concert Saturday night at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the UMSL campus. No word yet on when ticket sales begin, but we'll have more details for you as soon as they become available.

UPDATE, 3 p.m., 3/3/06: We've just been told that it will not be saxophonist Scott Hamilton appearing at the GSLJF, but rather trombonist Scott Whitfield. The initial information we received from the Festival's representative conflated the two Scotts, and we passed along the error. Apologies all around.
