In the near future, I hope to have a more comprehensive weekly calendar of upcoming jazz events as part of this blog. But for now, here are some highlights for this week:
Guitarist John Scofield performs with bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Bill Stewart beginning Wednesday, April 27 and continuing through Saturday, April 30 at Jazz at the Bistro. Scofield, Swallow and Stewart performed at last year's US Bank St. Louis Jazz Festival, and they were a lot of fun to watch - three superb musicians at the top of their respective games, feeling loose, enjoying themselves and going wherever the music took them.
On Thursday, vocalist Erin Bode appears at Washington University to wrap up their Holmes Lounge jazz series. for the year. To find out more about the Holmes Lounge series, or to get on the mailing list for future shows, visit their Yahoo Group.
And on Friday, bassist Tom Kennedy, who has performed with major jazz acts including Steps Ahead and John Pizzarelli, is back in his hometown and brings a trio to Cookie's Jazz and More in Webster Groves.
