The eight-to-the-bar blues piano style known as boogie-woogie was popularized in the Thirties and Forties by players such as Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, Meade "Lux" Lewis and Jimmy Yancey and has since spread all over the world.
Along with his many other talents, George "Commander Cody" Frayne plays a mean boogie-woogie piano, and so even though his band isn't a jazz group - they perform a mix of country, rockbilly and western swing to go with Frayne's keyboard prowess - it seems worth mentioning here that they're performing in St. Louis this Saturday night. You can read more about them in my article on the show in this week's Riverfront Times.
