Jazz St. Louis announces more winter, spring bookings at Jazz at the Bistro

Jazz St. Louis today announced the bands and musicians who will fill the remaining open dates in the winter and spring 2012 schedule at Jazz at the Bistro. The list includes mostly local players, plus return visits from guitarist Frank Vignola, last seen here in May 2009, and the Wee Trio (pictured), which includes ex-St. Louisan Dan Loomis on bass and made their debut at the Bistro in October 2009.

Also of note, singer Erin Bode and her band, which includes her husband Syd Rodway on bass, will take over the Valentine's Day gig done in recent years by spouses Mardra and Reggie Thomas, who moved to Michigan earlier this year. And pianist Dave Venn, a mainstay on the local scene during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s who's been somewhat less active publicly in recent years, will return to the Bistro stage for a one-nighter on Friday, April 6. (That's the night before pianist Brad Mehldau and saxophonist Joshua Redman arrive for their previously booked two-night gig on April 7 and 8 at the Bistro.)

Here are all the additional shows in chronological order:

Friday, January 13 & Saturday, January 14: Legacy Jazz Quintet plays the music of Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers
Friday, January 27 & Saturday, January 28: Wee Trio
Tuesday, February 14: Erin Bode
Friday, March 9 & Saturday, March 10: Rick Haydon Trio
Friday, April 6: Dave Venn Trio
Friday, May 4 & Saturday, May 5: Javier Mendoza
Friday, May 18 & Saturday, May 19: Frank Vignola with Vinny Raniolo

Tickets are $30 for Frank Vignola and $20 for the other shows, and go on sale at 10:00 a.m. this Friday, December 9 via Metrotix and the Jazz St. Louis box office.
