Jazz singer Jeanne Trevor (pictured), a favorite of St. Louis audiences since she first gained fame performing in the legendary Gaslight Square district nearly 50 years ago, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from Grand Center when the midtown arts district presents its sixth annual Visionary Awards in a ceremony to be held Wednesday, May 21 at the Sheldon Concert Hall.
The Visionary Awards recognize women for their contributions to the St. Louis arts and culture community. There are seven winners from a variety of arts disciplines this year, chosen by a selection committee chaired by Donna Wilkinson, St. Louis philanthropist and founder of the Wilkinson Group, and Cheryl Polk, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of United Way of Greater St. Louis. You can see a complete list of this year's Visionary Awards winners and read more about the event at Grand Center's Web site.
For more about Trevor's life and career, check out the profile of her in the video window below. The profile was reported and is narrated by Ruth Ezell for Living St. Louis, the twice-weekly arts and entertainment show produced by local PBS affiliate KETC, which has recently made many past segments from the program available online as YouTube clips.
