Jazz St. Louis, Saint Louis Symphony
to partner for three concerts

Via a blog entry from Jazz St. Louis education director Phil Dunlap, JSL and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra have announced that they'll work together to present three concerts this year, with plans for more in 2008. "The collaborations are not only pairings of jazz and classical music, but also jazz groups with musicians performing other styles of music and in non-traditional venues for the SLSO and Jazz St. Louis," wrote Dunlap.

The first event takes place October 23 at the Lucas School House, featuring the Esperanza Spalding Trio (who will be performing that Friday and Saturday at Jazz at the Bistro). Also on the bill are the ARDA Ensemble, described as "Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians dedicated to sharing the World's music...from Bosnian Sevdah songs to Mexican folk tunes, from Vivaldi to Woehr," and Project, a trio led by bassist flautist Greg Pattillio. This concert will be free and open to the public.

For the second concert on November 11th, Dunlap, a pianist and graduate of SIU-E's jazz program, will perform with members of the SLSO in a concert at the B'nai Amoona Congregation in Creve Coeur. The third concert will be held December 9 at the Old Rock House in Soulard, with the artists and program to be announced.
