US Bank Jazz Fest adds more local/regional acts

Lamar Harris will perform at the US Bank St. Louis
Jazz and Heritage Festival on Friday, June 23

In addition to Anita Rosamond (see previous item), the US Bank St. Louis Jazz and Heritage Festival has add three more local/regional acts to the lineup for this year's event, secheduled for Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24 at Shaw Park in Clayton:

* The Readus Miller Project is a one-man band (read: soloist with pre-recorded backup tracks) featuring Miller, a St. Louis-based standup comic turned smooth jazz saxophonist. Miller will be at the Festival entrance from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 23, presumably for the purpose of entertaining listeners as they come through the gates and wind their way on to the Fest grounds

* Trombonist Lamar Harris and his band, also from St. Louis, perform original music incorporating smooth jazz, hip-hop, funk and soul, and will appear on the "Soul School" stage from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday;

* The Craig Russo Latin Jazz Project is based in the Champaign/Urbana IL area, and will kick off Saturday's activities with a set from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the "Michelob Lager" stage.

I'm very glad to see the Fest organizers bringing more local acts into the mix, especially since none of the four just added have performed at the event before. I'm not sure that these additions make up for the lack of any major headliners playing straightahead jazz, but they can be seen, at least, as something of a concession to those of us who want more local flavor as part of the Fest.
