From the Belleville News Democrat:
The Alton Little Theater, 2450 N. Henry St. in Alton, Illinois, will present a Miles Davis Jazz Celebration from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, May 21. Although he is most often identified with East St. Louis, where he grew up and went to school, Davis actually was born in Alton on May 26, 1926. Sunday's event is the first of several in the area paying tribute to the late trumpeter in honor of what would have been his 80th birthday.
The program will feature "a number of well-known area musicians (who) are getting together to perform several of Miles' best-known works." It's sponsored by the Jazz Committee of the Alton Museum of History and Art and the Alton Little Theatre, and admission is free, "although a $5 donation is suggested to help start a fund that would make the concert an annual event." For more information, call the Museum at 618-462-2763.
