The Whitaker Music Festival, a series of free concerts held each summer at the Missouri Botanical Garden, has announced its schedule for 2006. As with previous years' festivals, the first month of the concert series will be devoted to jazz performances.
Pianist Peter Martin will kick off the series on Wednesday, June 7, followed by the traditional jazz sounds of the St. Louis Stompers on June 14. Guitarist Tom Byrne will perform on June 21, and on June 28, Mardra and Reggie Thomas will take the stage with a program of songs associated with Billie Holiday.
The festival will continue each Wednesday through August 9 with shows by the Bel-Airs; Vargas featuring Dawn Weber; the Flying Mules; Rogers, Nienhaus and Crawford; Autumn's Child; and Raven Moon.
Admission is free to all the concerts, which begin at 7:30 p.m. on the Cohen Amphitheater lawn at the Garden, 4344 Shaw in south St. Louis. For more information, visit the Garden's Web site, or view this press release (.pdf format).
