Since pianist Ramsey Lewis will be in St. Louis this Saturday to perform at the Sheldon Concert Hall's annual "ArtSounds" gala, this seems like a good time to share a video of a master class that he gave in June of this year for the
jazz fellows of the Steans Music Institute at the Ravinia Festival.
In addition to his ongoing work as a musician, broadcaster, and educator, Lewis (pictured) also serves as artistic director of Jazz at Ravinia, which is part of the famous outdoor music festival that takes place every summer in Highland Park, IL, not far from his Chicago home. The institute
is the festival's pre-professional summer conservatory program,
with separate tracks for jazz, classical piano and strings, and classical
singers.
(For more Ramsey Lewis, you can see some performance videos in this post from a week ago Saturday.)
