The Edwardsville Intelligencer has published an article detailing a lawsuit brought by Ross Gentile, the longtime host of the "Standards in Jazz" program on WSIE (88.7 FM), against Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville, which operates the radio station.
The article by the Intelligencer's Steve Horrell says Gentile alleges that "for more than a decade the university’s Board of Trustees intentionally misclassified his employment status to keep from paying him pension, health insurance, vacation, holidays and other benefits."
Gentile started at WSIE in 1993; he has had some health problems in recent years, and was let go this past April as the station began a series of cutbacks that eventually resulted in the elimination of all of its local on-air hosts. The suit filed in Madison County Circuit Court asks for Gentile to be reinstated with benefits and back pay, as well as unspecified financial damages.
