StLJN Saturday Video Showcase:
Singin' and Swingin' with Tony Bennett

While these Saturday video posts often serve as a way to present musical samples from brand new artists or those making their first trip to St. Louis, today's subject, by virtue of both his longevity and his musicianship, really needs no extended introduction. The great Tony Bennett will be in town this Thursday to perform at the Fox Theatre, and so today seemed like an opportune time to present some video clips featuring the beloved vocalist doing what he does best: singin' and swingin'.

First up is Bennett's version of the classic "I Got Rhythm," recorded for a 1996 TV special with his regular band, the Ralph Sharon Trio, plus special guests including a young Roy Hargrove on trumpet and the veterans Jimmy Heath on tenor sax and Al Grey on trombone. Next, we find Bennett and a quartet version of Sharon's group stretching out a bit on another standard, "In A Mellow Tone," in a recording from 2000. Last, but certainly not least, is a version of "The Best Is Yet To Come," taken from a another television broadcast a couple of years ago.
