St. Louis-based singer Denise Thimes will travel next week to Washington, DC to perform at the White House on Valentine's Day. Readers with long memories will recall that Thimes sang last year at the British Embassy for a reception honoring Queen Elizabeth; according to this article posted at AllAboutJazz.com, both gigs came about with help from Diane Williams, a St. Louis native who's married to former DC mayor Tony Williams.
In somewhat-related news, Thimes also appeared last month at the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) convention in Toronto. You can read a brief review of that performance here.
