StLJN Saturday at the Movies:
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra
plays the music of Duke Ellington

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, directed by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, is coming to St. Louis on Saturday, February 9 to play for the Sheldon Concert Hall's annual benefit gala. On their current tour, the JaLCO is performing a program featuring the love songs of Duke Ellington, and so for today's featured videos, let's look at a couple of examples that show them tackling tunes from the Ducal realm.

The first clip has Marsalis and the Orchestra playing Ellington's "Portrait of Louis Armstrong," while the second video showcases trumpeter Ryan Kisor taking the lead in Duke's "Concerto for Cootie," which originally was composed as a feature number for trumpeter and high-note specialist Cootie Williams. Enjoy!
