Jazz St. Louis is sponsoring a free performance by guitarist Mike Stern's trio for local jazz educators and their students on Friday, March 14. The 45-minute concert, followed by a Q&A session, will begin at 1 p.m. at Jazz At the Bistro.
"Space is limited for this free event and seats will be given on a first-requested/first-served basis with a limit of 10 high school students per school," says the blog entry by JSL education director Phil Dunlap. Requests for seats can be emailed to Dunlap at phil@jazzstl.org.
Stern (pictured) has plenty of St. Louis connections, beginning early in his career when he first gained attention as a member of Miles Davis' band. He later worked with another St. Louis native, saxophonist David Sanborn, and since has gone on to a successful and diverse career as a solo artist and bandleader. Stern will be in St. Louis March 12 through March 15 for a four-night engagement at the Bistro, accompanied by two more local-boys-made-good, bassist Tom Kennedy and drummer Dave Weckl.

Thanks Dean! Stern also has another St. Louis connection you didn't mention...he works frequently and has recorded with Kim Thompson, a wonderful drummer from STL.
