Also from the StLJN mailbox, Brandt's Cafe and Red Carpet Lounge host emeritus Jay Brandt emailed with the news that singer Mae Wheeler will be celebrating her birthday this year at Brandt's on Sunday, May 20.
Wheeler, nicknamed "Lady Jazz" in recognition of her long service in and to the St. Louis music community, has continued to perform at the club each week even while undergoing treatment for cancer. The birthday celebration will provide an oppporunity for her many friends and fans to wish her well, and Brandt is also encouraging local musicians to stop by to play for and with Wheeler.
The party gets started at 6 p.m., and Wheeler, in typical fashion, also is using the opportunity to help others by asking guests to bring a canned food donation and a $5 donation at the door for Food Outreach.
